When I see content on the web that speaks to women’s creativity and leadership roles in society, I ache to share it. So much wondrous content reflecting the power of a woman’s spirit lives on the web, and it’s incumbent upon ME to move mountains to find the author and ask for permission to share here on Your Publishing Pros. It’s my deepest desire to support women in leadership – offering insight and advice, to admonish them to “shine as brightly as you dare!”
Today, I am fortunate to have the words of a dear friend, who embodies creativity and leadership in more ways than even she knows, I think.
Mellie Rose Test, whom I think so fondly of as “Mellie Rose”…. because she is like a rose, so beautiful and inviting, as she embraces her garden of life, and shares her creative spirit with all of us…is an artist. Like many artists, she pulls her art from a special place in her soul, and over the years, she’s had her share of pot holes to jump over, she’s had her share of doors closed in her face, she’s had her share of joy built from despair.
When she agreed to allow me to share this post, first shown on Facebook, I jumped at the opportunity. That’s something I want you to read again… that I JUMPED at the OPPORTUNITY. Too often, women don’t jump at opportunity. They take baby steps as they move forward, as if they need to review it and touch it and turn it around in their hands…until it’s…gone. Had I not jumped at this approval to post here, might I have contacted Mellie a month on, and asked for permission? Of course. And would she have said yes? Likely. But, a month from now the power of this post will be … lessened by time. It’s a post for today. For the power of action!
I am officially 40 years old today! And… I don’t feel “old” AT ALL.
Because I find something beautiful in every day. I live every single day like it’s special. And that’s not a joke or a cliche. Or a “holier than thou” statement. I do. I FEEL it. And that’s my secret. I make choices based on “Will I regret it if I *don’t* take this chance, if I don’t give this a try? Will I wonder ‘what if?'”
My ex used to say to me, “Why can’t a day just be a day?” And that mystified me, because a day is NEVER “just a day.” Every day has nuggets of magic. Every day has the power to be a new step, a new transformation. Every single day has a chance to bring you more JOY.
Even in the hardest of times, when I’m literally down on my knees, *screaming* at the Universe for some help, I *still* find joy and comfort in the snuggles with my dogs, the smile and infectious giggle of my son, the expansive view of the Colorado mountains from our street in my small town.
The skies may be full of thunder and lightning and winds that just about knock me over, but I can still appreciate the beauty of the cleansing. Even when it hurts.
Every day, there is something to celebrate. And that joy, that celebration is what keeps our spirits alive. IT KEEPS US YOUNG.
I have been through enough in these 40 years that I’ve gained wisdom. I’ve gained insight. I’ve gained tenacity and strength. And I’ve also found my PASSION to lead others to their own brilliance.
Because I see it. I see YOUR creativity. I see YOUR bright spirit. And you can shine as brightly as you dare. And I share my journey as openly as I do – even the tough bits – so that you see me as HUMAN. And you can say, ‘If she can do it, then so can I.”
And then YOU DO IT. You do what really and truly makes YOUR heart sing. And you make magic.
I love each and every one of you. And that’s not being flip. I do. I feel very deeply and I love the same way. Even if we’ve only met once, or maybe not even in person!
THANK YOU for being a part of my journey and my life, and thank you for celebrating this magical day – which is “just a day” and yet also another day to get to CELEBRATE. Because it’s another day to get to take another step and explore what magic just may be in store. <3
(Plus, I keep hearing the 40s are AWESOME so I really can’t wait 😉 )
My advice to Mellie, my Rose, and to you, esteemed reader, is – don’t wait. Why are you waiting? Do it now. Jump, now.

Thank you, Mellie, for sharing your magic with us. Your leadership and creativity are amazing!
