Ppssst… want to know a secret? There are NO secrets to success. Cue gasp! If there were secrets that we could somehow find or gain access to, don’t you think we’d all do that and we’d all be successful? Take it a step further back and look at “we’d all be successful…” Your success is likely different from my success.
For me, a successful day could be one in which I close my office door at 5 pm and don’t think about work for more than 12 hours. It could be the day I close a couple new deals and get a new writing client. For you it could be when you get your first client or when you divest yourself of a client who just wasn’t right for you any longer.
Here, though are my best practice tips for success. You can call them secrets if you want to, that’s all right by me:
Put your action plan in writing. Writing down your action plan aka goal(s) helps you stay focused. It’s been shown that those who write down goals are more likely to have them come to fruition. I heard somewhere that a “plan not written down is a daydream.” If you don’t have a road map, a plan an ultimate goal, how will you know whether you’ve reached it?
Focus your dreams and visions. Be clear in your goals and visions for your business success. You can’t say, “I want to be a successful business owner.” You need to be specific. “I want to be a successful enough business owner that I can earn six figures (or whatever works for you), work from home, keep my pets in the manner to which they have become accustomed and have a work/life balance.” Write your goals as a large, overarching summit and then write down the steps you will need to take to scale it.
Celebrate successes. If you have a goal that will require myriad milestones to achieve it – celebrate those milestones and continue your forward momentum. Reward yourself for a job well done. Finishing that to-do list may be the milestone you’ve set for yourself today and if at the end of the day, everything is crossed off, then by all means celebrate!
My number one secret to success is to know what success means to you. If you know that you can set goals to make it a reality. What’s your number one secret to success?
