“Hi, I’m Robbi and I love planners.” If there were a support group, I’d be in it. Hell, I’d probably be the leader of it.
My planner obsession stems from the fact that I am always on the lookout for the latest and greatest. The best planner I can get my hands on. Is there such a thing? I have yet to find a planner that suits me 100% of the time. I have planners that I love for various reasons:
- Great paper weight
- Lovely colors
- Beautiful designs
- Emerald green leather cover
- Weekly spreads
- Monthly overviews
- Desktop worthy
- A planner that promises me something… creativity, productivity, whatever the premise of that planner is lures me in.
Do I have a “problem”? I don’t think so. Honestly, I think that planners are my tools of the trade. Do I need as many as I have? Probably not. When I am talking with a client about time and goal management, though, I know that different planner types appeal to different personalities.
Some people love monthly spreads. Others cannot function without daily spreads. Still other people work best when they have a daily spread in front of them and they will work on, and think about, that day only.
Personally, I need a planner that has a month at a glance so I can fill in birthdays and upcoming appointments and know that nothing will overlap. Along with the month at a glance, I need a week at a glance layout. Seeing what I have to plan for, appointments I need to work around and other things going on keeps me on track with the client tasks I need to complete weekly.
I also use my Google calendar to input appointments because I like the reminders it sends me. Also, if I attend a meeting and don’t take my paper planner along I have my Google calendar to keep me on track. Yep, it is an extra step to transfer appointments and info from one platform to another, but it is part of my daily ritual and is not a burden.
What kind of planner do you use? Do you use paper or electronic or a combination of the two? Do you have a favorite planner type or style?
If you’re struggling to determine what kind of planner is best for you or whether you need to invest in a different type of planner than the one you’re using OR if you don’t use a planner at all, I’d love to know.
