Saving You from Mediocre Writing, Speaking, and Presenting
Your Publishing Pros is everything the title tells you it is. We’re writers. We’re publishers. We’re professionals.
We take all words seriously, but especially your words – the commanding words of women and men everywhere. Taking your words seriously – saving you from mediocre writing, speaking and presenting begins and ends our day, each and every day.
The most powerful tool in anyone’s toolbox is their ability to communicate well. Writing and speaking well outperforms all other abilities and talents. With that in mind, we believe in the power of being stubborn, determined, and focused – qualities that have served many successful entrepreneurs and start-ups through the years, so don’t be afraid to bend the ‘rules’ with us, if you absolutely need to. It’s okay to be a ‘bossypants’, like Ann Handley.
Ann Handley, Author/Speaker/Content Bossypants
“Make your words the hero of your design.”
Your Publishing Pros came to be precisely because we believe in the story of you; the one you gloss over when you do your 60-second commercial at all of those important networking events you attend; the one you should be telling on your website/blog About page; the one you give at presentations, where you are speaker or keynote; and the one you tell in conversations with family, friends, colleagues. Too often, that story is being lost in business-speak and third person, rote memorization.
It’s the story you’re secretly writing, in your head or in a journal each day… about you and your passion for the business/life you are living now – or preparing to live, soon. It’s a book waiting to be born.
If you’re worried about readers – let’s talk. That’s the first and most often asked question we get, “Who will read it?” Often said with a bit of self-deprecation, because you’re sure no one will read it. But, we know who will read it. And, it isn’t just your friends and family.
Our team is passionate about what we do. If the quotes below speak to you, as strongly as they speak to us, then it’s surely time to begin the story of you. Email me today, I have a half-hour discovery session waiting for you – yvonne (at) yvonnedivita (dot) com. p.s. you’ll also learn 21 Ways to Take Your Story on the Road – Where the People Are!
Evan Esar: American Humorist
“The advance of science has enabled man to communicate at twice the speed of sound while he still acts at half the speed of sense.”
George Bernard Shaw: Irish Playwright
The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place.”
Lee Thayer: Author and Professor
“People create the worlds they live in by how they talk about them. The mind is not in the brain. It exists only in, and in the service of, communication.”
Yvonne DiVita, Writer/Author/Blogger/Book Coach/
Let me begin by telling a story:
It was a dark and stormy night. The wind tore at the trees, slapping their bare, knobby branches against the window like evil spirits demanding entrance! I was shivering in my desk chair. The threadbare blanket I’d grabbed from the bed did little to tame the icy cold seeping from the bare walls of my attic room. I was sure the rain and the wind and their awful screeching would burst through the glass at any moment!
Ok, that’s purple prose. I like playing with it, but it has no place in serious writing.
My true story is simple. I was born with a pencil in my hand.
Did you just imagine a baby waving a pencil in her fat little hand? Did it make you smile? Good. It was meant to.
Yes, I am, first and foremost, a writer, not that I learned to write in my mother’s womb. Though, I may have. Writing is second nature to me. As important as eating, or sleeping, or walking from room to room in my Colorado home. As I go about the day fetching coffee, letting the dog out, returning to my desk to compose blog posts, write my book, create presentations, reply to emails, add edits to client books, or whatever is on the schedule at that moment, I am writing. The eternal writer who accompanies me everywhere, writes tomes in my head, every day. It’s because I am a writer, that I can be your book coach. I understand.
Virginia Woolf: Journalist, Author
For it would seem – her case proved it – that we write, not with the fingers, but with the whole person. The nerve which controls the pen winds itself about every fibre of our being, threads the heart, pierces the liver.”
I am a child of that quote. Grown taller and older and smarter, I believe. But still feeling the pen wind itself around every fiber of my being.
On a business level, you may wish to know that I bring 20 years of work, education and study in the field of communication.
In my previous company, Windsor Media Enterprises, LLC (WME Books), I worked hand in hand (mind to mind, you might say) with business professionals coaching them as they composed their ideas into what we called “Book as Business Card”. I worked with astonishingly talented women, and some remarkable men, telling the stories of ‘them’, who they are beyond the business or public face. Over the years, I have returned to those stories, again and again, realizing the power they have to build relationships – better and more effectively than any business tagline or marketing-speak.
I now focus on the power of your voice, to tell your story, to assure that you will be recognized in today’s digital world as a leader in the space you have chosen to become known in. Your Publishing Pros also helps you create:
- ideas for presentations
- and more…
Spekaing of blogs, while at WME, my husband Tom and I created the Business Blogging Boot Camp workshop to teach blogging and social media to local small business professionals. This, also, focused on excellence in communication, especially speaking and writing. The training and concept serves us well, even today. We believe all authors should have a blog.
In 2009, we co-founded a new venture, with the talented Caroline Golon, and with our daughter, Chloe DiVita, called BlogPaws. Our pet community supported (and still supports) pet bloggers in their pursuit of excellence, using online tools and connections to the brands they buy every day. BlogPaws holds a yearly national conference with powerful keynote speakers, expert sessions, and a full exhibit hall. This growing pet blogger and lifestyle blogger community has been so successful at bringing brands together with influencers, it was acquired by Pet360, Inc. which was, in turn, acquired by PetSmart.
Today, I am retired from BlogPaws. Experience from those amazing years of BlogPaws, 8 national conferences, engaging with that vocal community of pet parents across the world, showed me it was time to return to my passion – writing and working with other writers, to create books that matter. At Your Publishing Pros, every project, every word, every book, every voice, matters.
I leave you with this thought, what will you build today – that will be as everlasting as your remarkable story?
And now, I return to my room… it is my cocoon.
Robbi Hess, Writer/Author/Blogger/Editor
I am a professional blogger, social media consultant, copy (and ghost) writer, editor and creative thinker. I help individuals and small business owners define their key message and express it through social media platforms, a robust website presence, blogging, newsletters and other online and print media.
As a writer, I believe that All Words Matter especially as it relates to your business and the message you’re sending. I’ve honed my craft over years of prolific writing efforts in both print and online forums. I have sharpened my red pen as the editor of daily newspapers, business and writer’s magazines as well as with several book publishers.
Many years ago, armed with only a desire to become a journalist, a deep love for the written word, and an eagle-eye for accuracy, I talked the editor of the local newspaper, The Medina Journal Register, into hiring me. From my humble beginnings as an obituary and police beat reporter I worked my way up to beat reporter and editor of the weekly paper, The Albion Advertiser.
A broken foot in 2004 launched me into the realm of full-time writer. With a broken foot and because I was laid up (literally — my toes above my nose) for three weeks then an additional three months off-from-work recuperation time I jumped headlong into pursuing a dream of a full-time writing career.
I am now in the midst of writing a book, “Social Wordsmithing For Small Business Owners” and working on a series of Essentials with Yvonne, for Your Publishing Pros.
I’ve worked with Tom and Yvonne for close to 15 years! I was a vital part of the Windsor Media Enterprises (WMEBooks) publishing company, and I continue to be an active member of the BlogPaws pet blogger community. These last 15 years have flown by! I’ve watched small business owners struggle with writing and learning as it pertains to online. It’s because of the fast-changing world of doing business online that I continue to work with my own clients on social media and writing/editing, as well as working with Tom and Yvonne at Your Publishing Pros.
All words do matter. As Yvonne says, it’s time for your voice to be heard. Let’s work together.

Tom Collins, Writer/Author/Blogger/Visionary
My own “Old Dog Learning” skills date back to my days as a ligation lawyer, in Upstate NY. I was a stay at home Dad (an early adapter, that’s me!) working on client cases as I carried my young son in a front pack around the law library. Those were good times. They taught me that you can have a passion for helping people and still be a Dad.
When Yvonne and I ran the WMEBooks publishing company, I was the one nudging people to start blogs. I saw the potential of blogs and wanted our authors to tap into that opportunity. Some did. Some did not.
It’s for sure that Yvonne and I did! We created another business around it, as she said; the Business Blogging Boot Camp workshop brought the power of the written word, the power of a person’s voice, and the power of building long-term relationships over the web, to smart folks everywhere. It changed our business by opening doors to speaking opportunities and amazing conversations online, that led to new clients because when you engage on a blog, you bring authenticity and sincerity. Those are two necessary traits for success today: authenticity and sincerity. We practice them daily at our home offices.
I will be part of the design team at Your Publishing Pros. I will create book covers and ebook design and help authors with their branding. Not everyone understands this but page layout, how the inside of your book looks and feels, affects the reader experience, and contributes to branding. That’s one of the important things you’ll work on with me, if you’re a client. And, as part of my brand, I share the quotes below:
(my favorite Lee Thayer quote) “Learning is the producer of growth and hence of real life …”
(and a favorite quote – condensed- from Steve Jobs) “Here’s to the crazy ones… the round pegs in the square holes… the ones who see things differently –they push the human race forward, and while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius, because the ones who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
Yvonne often introduces me as a ‘recovering’ lawyer, which is important to note. While I am all for crazy and creative, I do have an eye for detail. I know how to serve you, as a client, giving you the undivided attention you deserve, to make sure your creation, your book, is all you want it to be.
Before I sign off, I’ll remark on the photo. That’s my Tux T-shirt. I wear it at the closing event for every BlogPaws conference (see Yvonne’s bio above re: BlogPaws). It serves the purpose – at BlogPaws, the closing event is a black-tie awards ceremony and sit down dinner, complete with it’s own step-and-repeat. While everyone else, including the pets, dresses to the nines, I dress to be comfortable. My Tux T-shirt saves me, every time!
Need more info on book development? Need to noodle on the idea of a book? We’re here to help. If I’m the guy you want to talk with, connect with me at tom (at) olddoglearning (dot) com. We’ll chat about you, your book idea, and I’ll tell you about my previous title as Left Rear Paw, at BlogPaws. Maybe I’ll even tell you why we quote Lee Thayer so much.
